The iconic flag raising on Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima has become one of the most powerful symbols of the United States Marine Corps. Captured in Joe Rosenthal’s historic photograph, it represents extraordinary courage, unity, and sacrifice in the face of overwhelming odds. The image emerged from one of the costliest battles of World War II and quickly became a national emblem of hope, resilience, and the price of freedom.
